Carrick masters Splash meet 30th July 2022

22 members attended the Carrick masters Splash meet on 30th July. Whilst many swimmers were new to competing, or had not competed for a very long time, others were seasoned competitors. Regardless of past experience everyone supported each other to enjoy this club gala.

After a short delay at the start to round up some volunteers from the deck, we got under way to a well-managed fast 5 gala. Some of the swimmers chose to do 2 out of the 5 events but most took on the challenge of doing all 5 events of 50m Fly (thankfully at the start!), 50m breast stroke, 50m Back stroke, 50m free and 100m IM. Swum in mixed heats with ages between 18-70+ swimmers were competing for themselves. Times were recorded to measure performance but everyone was a winner and medals were awarded to all participants. 21 new Club records were broken (16 Female and 5 Male). Male records Thomas Collier 50m back, 50m fly and 50m F/S, Charlie Varker 50m back and Peter Stephens 50m back. Female records Megan Cookson 50m back, Anna Harrold 50m back, 50m breast, 50m fly and 100m IM, Julie Drage 50m back and 50m F/S, Sam Denyer 50m breast and 50m F/S, Claudia 50m Breast and 100m IM, Judy Rolston 50m Breast, Jodie 50M Fly and 50m F/S, Monique 100m IM and Sally Powell 100m IM. Some impressive swims across the board with even a few personal best times.

A big Thank you to Maureen and Scott who organised the officials (without which the gala cannot take place) and Val our competition secretary for doing all the administration.

When we needed a few hands on deck , the spirit of the club shone through with Vicky and Alison taking on timing roles along with Adrian “team manager”, time keeper, coach and several others multitasking between swims . Food was a motivation for some of us who met at Pizza Hut after our swims for a well deserved Pizza and social get together .

Thank you everyone for supporting the gala, overcoming those challenges with a smile on your face, and making it an event to remember . Well Done!

Results have been sent on Spond and will be submitted to Swim England masters rankings very soon
