Carrick Masters Swimming Club

About Me

I grew up in Bude, so began to swim at an early age in the sea pool and in the sea, but never learnt any proper strokes, although I managed to be a keen member of the Surf Life-Saving Club in my youth.

I moved away and, for many years, did much more mountain walking than swimming. In my fifties, having suffered a foot injury, I went to swimming lessons to learn properly.

I’m not a competition swimmer (too slow for one thing!), but I try to improve my technique and maintain fitness and enjoy an open water swim challenge.
I have been Carrick Masters Club Secretary since the start and have learnt a lot over the past few years. The Club aims to be an inclusive club for a range of ages and abilities and I’m keen to encourage anyone who wants to swim to do so.
